DESIGN. This handsome 2-level home is a very attractive, open-air classic Mediterranean/Caribbean design that consists of two buildings that are connected by decks, a courtyard and a common roof. From the parking area behind the villa you enter Gestalt through a colorful stone garden courtyard. All four bedrooms are on the upper level to the left of the courtyard, while the kitchen, primary dining area and a lanai (indoor/outdoor room) are on the upper level on the other side of the courtyard. The large, open living area is a half level below the lanai and the dining room. The pool and spacious pool deck are on the lower level and are accessed by stone steps. The best swimming however, is a few levels below your fresh water pool A private path (steep at times) leads to your huge, turquoise, salt water pool (the Caribbean Sea) and the swimming, snorkeling, and exploring are worth the hike. This is some of the finest snorkeling to be found on the West End, and a boat dock and swim ladder provide easy access to the 82-degree Caribbean waters.

BEDROOMS. The bedroom pavilion of Gestalt overlooks the very private pool and contains four air-conditioned, screened bedrooms and four and one-half baths. The three guest bedrooms are of equal size and are similarly furnished. They are all located off a common hallway on the entry (upper) level, making this a very good arrangement for families. The master bedroom is located in the most private setting at the end of the hallway. The master bedroom and bath were remodeled and enlarged in 2003, and were transformed into a very inviting and romantic bedroom suite. Honeymooners and lovers will adore this bedroom suite and the other bedrooms are recommended for couples and families.

CARIBBEAN VILLAS' VIEW. Let's look at Gestalt from two perspectives. From the viewpoint of location, Gestalt gets one of our highest ratings. We tend to overuse the word unique because St. John and Tortola have some really distinctive homes. But Gestalt and its neighbor Steele Point Villa are truly unique homes, due mostly to their spectacular settings and designs. These two homes share a gated and private 8-acre peninsula that offers really outstanding peacefulness, tranquility and privacy. Except for Steele Point, no other home on St. John or Tortola includes a helicopter landing pad and a private dock that allows you to berth a 40 -50 foot boat and walk (actually, hike - Gestalt is 100 feet above sea level) up to your villa. The swimming and snorkeling from your dock are delightful, but you may prefer to relax on your ultra private pool deck on cushioned teak patio furniture, or in your hammock. Because Gestalt faces south your pool deck is bathed in lovely Caribbean sunshine, so plan on having an affair with the sun. From everywhere on this distinctive property, the views of multi-colored waters, boats under sail and the islands of Frenchman's Cay, Little Thatch, Great Thatch, and St. John are ultra scenic. Quite simply, this is a unique, exclusive and exceptional location for a tropical villa.

As for the house itself, you would expect that a location this distinctive would be the setting for an impressive home. It is, Gestalt is a very handsome, one of a kind, custom-designed home that takes full advantage of its marvelous location. The dining and living areas are located on the west end of the house to capture the favored island views and the memorable sunsets. The bedrooms are located in a separate building on the east end of the house that overlooks the large sundeck and pool area. All the rooms are decorated in colorful shades of the Caribbean. The furnishings and accessories follow the lead of the land and the design, classic and tasteful with an element of romance and adventure.
